Medieval castle we stumbled upon in Monte St. Angelo, (about an hour inland of Vieste)

The princess of the castle

The castle was built by the Normans in the 11th Century. It was used by the Angevins as a prison and held, among others, Queen Joan I. It was restored and enlarged by the Aragonese between 1491 and 1493.
